HI Laura. I love your work. twitter.com/adoptionexpert is my favorite adoption Twitter feed. ExploringAdoptionBlog.com is the adoption blog I read the most. Thank you so much.
I don't have a blog or website, and I am not really a writer. Unless you count my RL job, which is writing gov't proposals. I joined this group because I was searching for the address to the adoption agency so I could get in touch with the adoptive parents of my daughter. It has been a couple of years since my last contact with the adoptive parents, and I wanted to update them on my current location, status, and siblings that their daughter now has. Although it was an open adoption, I've tried to keep contact to a minimum for all our benefit. They have been kind enough over the years to send photos of her and updates when I've asked.
The problem is, the only contact info was through the now defunct agency, Children of the World, in NJ. As I searched the web I found a writer here that had participated in the agency's dissolve. I admit I have paid little attention to the circumstances surrounding the issue - and have completely focused on the fact that I now have no liaison to contact the family. My intent and hope was that in joining this group, someone might be able to help me find out what has happened to the records and other items that were sent to the agency for safekeeping (including gifts and letters written to her that were to remain in a box until she chose to retrieve them), since I have not been able to find any information online that will help - so far. I apologize for using the forum for this purpose, but I don't know where else to look. Thank you all for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Maria
Well, we found Armenia when looking through a few different potential countries and it fit our needs (travel, ages of children, etc), but we also felt called to this country, too.
Armenia isn't the most open to adoption and only recently has begun allowing couples of non-Armenian descent to adopt. In the past that has been the biggest factor in keeping people from adopting from Armenia. But it is open to non-Armenians now (we aren't Armenian).
It is a small program - 40 children adopted out of the country last year. I'm praying the small size means easier observation for ethical issues.
Thanks Laura! I am so happy you created this wonderful group. I just invited another author to join. I wanted to let you all know that www.shelfari.com is growing in popularity for bloggers and online book clubs. You should all join and also update or create an "author profile" to get more exposure. Thank you all! I look forward to growing as a writer with this group :)
Thanks so much for the welcome, I've still got to explore this site, it looks very interesting.
Thanks for the kind words, I am partial of course, but I think our children are "seven from heaven".
Hi Laura,
Thanks for the welcome as I slowly feel my way around this site. I'm very excited I found all of you as it appears we have a lot in common. With the book just out in early Sept. I find myself busy with book fairs and other promotional functions. I'm beginning to feel very comfortable with the adoption community and find these families very warm and inviting people. Speaking about warm, are you in a warm part of the country? We're getting snow and blistery winds here in upstate NY. Not ready for this! Be talking to you.
Hi Laura,
Thank you for inviting me as a friend.
I have to get used to navigating the site.
I am always looking for marketing tips for the self publisher.
I have to look into your work and look forward to it.
Happy Holidays,
Bonnie
Laura,
Had the priviledge of hearing you on the radio as I awoke this morning. I would love to tap your brain and resources for starting a adoption support network in our church. So many have adopted and have personally come to us to share their experiences and want to help, yet all want "someone" to start a formal group. So glad to have someone who has gone before us to help us find our way!
I'd be happy to do a guest column or an interview. I'm very qualified to discuss search organizations-for profit or otherwise. I have quite a unique and interesting story.
Hi Laura,
Thank you for the welcome! For about a year, we were thinking about adopting and started gathering information, but only after the death of our stillborn daughter Isabella Love, in August, did we put the adoption process in full force. As a matter of fact, we just received a package today from an attorney we may use. We are deciding between two attorneys - one is a recommended Christian attorney, used by other fellow homeschoolers in the area who liked him. The other is an attorney recommended by the crisis pregnancy center that we support and my husband did website work for. It's hard to figure out which is better for us right now. Did you find your babies yourself? We are considering Parent Profiles. Have you heard of that? They match up birthmoms w/ adoptive parents. Please pray for us as we choose which attorney is best for us. We are also still trying to conceive...My husband and I are currently working on a book together which includes our adoption journey. Thank you for any advice and prayers you can give!

Laura, Thanks for your welcome note. You've created a beautiful forum for making adoption connections, and after looking through your book outline and sample chapters, I wish I had read your book back in 1994 - when we were just learning about adoption. You have a complete package in your books and website. I'm sure many people are being blessed by your information.

Laura, I just "stumbled" across your Adoption Writers site. What a wonderful place you have here! I'm so happy to join your group. Thanks for creating such an inviting place. I look forward to getting to know you.
Yes, I know Chris Bradbury, he is the one that directed me toward your book.
We are looking at recruiting foster/adoptive parents through the church--if you have anyone interested, I would love to talk to them.
Most of my energy is spent stabilizing foster/adoptive parents when they have a child in their home. I have a small private practice of adoptive parents--most of whom are struggling and the adoption is close to disrupting. I focus on healing, not behavior management and work primarily with the parents, not the child(ren).
Thanks for all you do--I'm hoping to read your book soon.
Thank you for adding me as a friend. I have been wanting to read your books since I discovered your blog a couple of months ago. I'm doing lots of reading now because I know it will be much harder once we have an infant or toddler in our family!
Hello Laura - thank you for your note. It's nice to be here. Our church has 6,000 members so we produce an enormous number of documents. We have two bulletins and I produce the monthly one. I also have various other little jobs, but whenever our department, and any others who desire help, has a document that needs editing or that needs copy, I come in. My favorite part of the job however is producing the church magazine. It comes out three times a year and allows me to meet some incredible people. Our website is www.chcc.org and the magazine is The Overlook if you ever want to see it. My favorite piece is Snow Angel. I'm thinking now about writing about adoption for our winter issue. I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks again!
