In 100 words or less, tell us about yourself. Include at least 1 link to some adoption-related writing you've done.
I'm an adoptee, neuropsychologist, and writer whose first adoption-related young adult novel, "The Other Sister" (Flux), was published in March 2007. I also did a workshop at the American Adoption Congress Annual Meeting in Boston this year on sibling reaction to reunion.
Hi Linda! Wow, now I'm going to have check out your book! Are the two others sequels to The Making of Isaac Hunt, or sequels to other books? I can't wait to read it!
The Other Sister is my first novel, so I don't really have any basis of comparison as to its reception. It seems to me, however, that it's been REALLY well-received; it came out in March and has sold the first run out (7,500 copies), so is going into a second printing. Also, I'm increasingly getting emails and letters from people of all ages telling me that they 'couldn't put it down' and relating ways in which adoption has touched their own lives. Also, my book signings tend to go kind of slowly because people want to talk so much about their own experiences with adoption. I'm also impressed by the insightful comments made by teens as young as 12 and 13 who read it; I read a review by a 13-year-old yesterday that said, "It would have been an awful lot to find out in one phone call!" The whole process has been really fun and interesting.
How about you; how many books have you written? Are they all adoption-related in some way?
Hi, Susan. I'm glad I read your profile today. I just joined and was starting to think that I was the only novel author in the group ... was feeling kind of 'odd-woman-out' until I clicked on your photo.
My first book, The Making of Isaac Hunt, came out this June. I'm working on two others (sequels), but the adoption themes won't be as strong as that of the first.
Would be interested in hearing how you've been received on the YA scene. I've considered it myself.
Heidi,
I really appreciate you reading The Other Sister and giving it such a kind review! It's also been a pleasure meeting you here; what a great opportunity to network and meet great people whose lives have been touched by adoption!

Read your novel over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. And yes, your publicist did send me a copy, too -- I completely forgot about it and it was buried at the bottom of a big stack of books I still need to review.
I posted a review of it today at my Exploring Adoption blog, and also on my websites (please let your publicist know). Here are the links to the reviews:
Congratulations on your book! I agree with Laura, a YA novel with an adoption theme really can fill some holes in the market! We have circled around that market with children's books and a parent book. I hope sales are going well (great cover BTW) and if I can help, please let me know.
Hi Laura,
I think we emailed a bit back in April and my publicist was supposed to send you my book (you were going to send me yours when it was available!) Did she not send it to you?

Thank you for the comment on my page about my e-book Adoption Stories from the Bible.
Your YA book sounds good, too! I think there needs to be more fiction books out there about adoption.
