After adopting my younger daugter at age 4, I was disappointed by the lack of appropriate children's adoption books for our situation. I was inspired to write and illustrate Welcome Home, Forever Child: A Celebration of Children Adopted as Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Beyond. This book has been endorsed by leading adoption experts Regina Kupecky, Dr. Foster Cline, Mary Hopkins-Best, and Jayne Schooler. I am thrilled that adopton agencies have been purchasing the book to distribute to families adopting older children.

I recently wrote an article for the blog on www.TapestryBooks.com, under Resources/Reviews. I am currently working on two new manuscripts for children's adoption books, as well as a couple of articles. I have also created a line of adoption greeting cards based on Welcome Home, Forever Child, that are available in the card section on www.AdoptionShop.com, under Older Child Adoption.

I am excited about this network and look forward to meeting many interesting people!

Hotel for Dogs movie - caution for parents!!!

A lot of kids are excited about seeing the new movie Hotel For Dogs. However, foster and adoptive parents should be aware that there are major foster care and adoption themes that might upset some children - particularly those who have experienced abuse and neglect, a lack of food, multiple moves and/or sibling separation.

My friend took her daughter and mine to this movie, not having any clue about these themes. I usually look up the plots of movies beforehand, because in the past some themes… Continue

Age Regression Photos for Older Child Adoptions

Adopting older children brings both challenges and amazing rewards. One difficulty faced by many families, those who adopt internationally and from foster care, is the lack of photos of their child as a baby and young child. Children adopted at older ages have already lost so much, and this is another painful reminder of what they have lost.

I knew it was coming, and finally it did the other night. My younger daughter (adopted at age four) flipped through an album that had baby photos of my old… Continue

I am trying to find other writers who would be willing to read my new book, Adopting Alesia, and just give me a positive quote about it. It's about the adoption of my daughter Alesia from Russia, and all the obstacles I encountered in getting her home. I could get the manuscript to you in the next week or two, and I'd need a response by early April. It's a little less than 200 pages. Would you be able to read it?

I ordered the photos a couple of weeks ago, but didn't hear back, so I called them. I was told it takes about 4 weeks or more to get them done. I am dying to see how they turned out. I will post them on my blog when I get them back. I'll try to remember to post here, too.

Hi Christine. I adopted aan-almost-two year old from China and I experienced the same thing...nothing to read to them. I wrote some children's books about this age group and about my experience. Good luck with your books. They look great!

Thanks for reading my blog. My hope is to encourage other parents going through similar issues and also give a face to the label "special needs adoptions" and on how "special needs" are not that much different from any other needs adopted children have!

You write children's books! That's wonderful!

I'll keep an eye out for "Welcome Home..." It sounds terrific!

I'm interested in illustrating children's books but my background/education are in engineering. I have lots of print and web graphics design experience but my question is how far does that go if I don't have a degree in illustration or fine arts. Hmmm.

Christine - Thanks for this! I would have connected the dots eventually that you are the one who goes with Welcome Home Forever Child...Phil did right away when he saw your name. I'm a bit slower, I guess!

I sincerely hope that you are blessed by reading Carried Safely Home!

Thank you for your gracious offer; I would love to have you look at some of my writing.

Your book sounds great--I'll look forward to getting it and reading it.

I met the CEO of Focus on the Family at the YMCA about 2 years ago and started talking to him about the waiting children in CO and all over the US and how the church needed to be working to meet this need. He listened and later launched the Orphan Summit. I was there and am now part of a very small steering committee that is working to recruit 500 families each year for the next 3 years so that we can get all of the waiting children in CO in adoptive homes. We are primarily going through the churches. We are in the planning stages now, with a launch date of possibly November.
Thanks for asking. I can share more as we clarify our direction.
