I am the director of a foster care and adoption agency in CO. I am also working with Focus on the Family on an initiative to get waiting children in Colorado into adoptive homes. My writing is mostly in curriculum and newsletters; not published yet. I am beginning to work on some projects that highlight the healing of children in foster and or adoptive settings.

Hi Debi...thanks for the link, and yes, I DO understand the issues. My 19 year old has RAD and FAS, a treacherous mixture that literally devastated our family for many years. We refused to give up on her, though...we saw the spirit that dwells within her and could not turn away. Now, our relationship is one of love and respect....well, SOME respect! But we made it. God gave her to us because he knew we could do it.
Life is full of challenges, but along with the challenges come great rewards!
Hi there,
That would be great. Give me a little bit and I'll give you some of the info that I have. If you don't hear from me soon; prompt me again....Thanks. Wasn't the summit inspiring?
Hearing about what is happening in foster care was one of the highlights of the Summit for me, since I've mostly been in international adoption. We'd like have more about foster care/adoption on our website. When we can get around to it... If you have any ready-to-go writing about the needs and healing of foster children that might fit, I'd be glad to work it into a foster page on adoption-by-grace
Thanks--that is very generous of you--I will look at it and our staff can decide if we want to have some to make available to our foster/adoptive parents.
Wow, that project sounds wonderful! I find that most people really don't know much about adopting from foster care and/or they have a lot of misconceptions about it. I hope the project is very successful!
I'd be happy to send you a complimentary copy of my book, if you e-mail me with an address.
Welcome to Adoption Writers! Were you at the Adoption & Orphan Care Summit this spring? I attended; so did Kristin Wong, who is also a member of this network. Do you know Chris Padbury of Project 1.27? He's my new buddy and has been a huge supporter of my new book, "The Adoption Network" (http://tinyurl.com/32qkj4). You might find that book helpful in your line of work, too.
Like Christine, I'm interested in learning more about what you're doing in Colorado to find homes for foster children.
Welcome! Your work sounds great, and very much needed. I'd love to hear more about the Focus on Family initiative. We adopted our daughter from foster care at age four, and I am always trying to encourage others to consider adopting from foster care.
If your'e every looking for feedback on your maerial, I'd be happy to look at it and comment.

Sorry...I just saw your response below. Still trying to figure out how all this works (on this site). I will send you a copy of my book.
Thanks!
Christine

I remember the YMCA/FOTF story from the Summit.
