The wife, sister-in-law, cousin-in-law and parent of people who joined their families by adoption, I have been volunteering, educating, writing in the infertility and adoption fields for over 30 years. Twenty-five years ago I founded Perspectives Press, Inc.: The Infertility and Adoption Publisher as a way to self-publish a collection of adoption-related poetry, Perspectives on a Grafted Tree: Thoughts for Those Touched by Adoption. Things took off from there, and I've spent my second career (the first was as an English teacher and school librarian) as an editor and publisher and educator.
Eight PPInc books are mine. The most recent will come out in January. It's title is Adopting: Sound Choices, Strong Families, and it combines and updates two earlier books: Adopting after Infertility and Launching a Baby's Adoption.
FYI, PPInc does non-fiction for adults. We do not publish memoir or adult fiction. Our children's publishing program is currently on hold. I'd be glad to talk about why that is at some point!
Thanks for responding to my 'National Adoption Day' discussion in the forum. I was suprised that I didn't get an automatic e-mail notice of your reply; I just happened to find it. So I was going to send you a 'private message' thought this site, but it looks like you are not set up for that. Just wanted to mention it in case that is a feature you want to add to your profile. Anyway, you can see my reply on the National Adoption Day topic in the forum.
I have been a big fan of your writing for many years, and was just promoting your Seattle speaking engagements at our adoption network's event last night! Hope your presentations go well this weekend and that you get a great turnout. Thanks for joining Adoption Writers.
Hi, Patricia. Welcome to the group. Our family is about to begin some attachment counseling with our middle child. He is five now but he was adopted at 35 months.
I have concerns ... have we started too late with the counseling? ... what books would you suggest? Feel free to email me: linda [at] llhargrove.com
Hi Patricia and welcome! I own several titles you have published, including A Child's Journey Through Placement, Attaching in Adoption, and Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft. Mary Hopkins-Best was kind enough to endorse my children's book, Welcome Home, Forever Child: A Celebration of Children Adopted as Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Beyond.
It's great to have people like you join us here, who have so much experience in this field.
