My name is Joanna Freitag and I enjoy reading, writing and talking about adoption. As a reunited adult adoptee, I did not fully embrace my "adoptedness" until I was in my mid-twenties and decided to search for my biological mother. It was journey that forever changed my life. Not only did I locate and reunite with my biological family, I founded a non-profit, volunteer search organization called Family Tree Finders. We assist individuals in the adoption triad that are in search mode. I am also a board member of the North Carolina Coalition for Adoption Reform. This group is working hard to restore the rights of adult adoptees with regards to access to their original birth certificate. In 2007, we were successful in the unanimous passage of HB445 which allows adoption agencies to act as intermediaries between the parties of adoption. This is a huge stride for NC. I have done a lot of "writing for the cause" here in NC and I also have a blog that enjoy updating when I can.
Welcome to Adoption Writers! It sounds as if you're doing a much-needed work within the adoption community. I'd love to have you guest on my Exploring Adoption blog sometime -- people are always asking me about search organizations, and, as I don't have much experience in this area, I'm not sure where to refer them. Let me know if you'd like to write a guest column or for me to interview you.
