I am a single mom, and I adopted my daughter from Russia in 2004 when she was 13. I adopted my son from Kazakhstan in April 2007 when he was 10. I write a daily blog: http://deescribbler.typepad.com/jacks_new_family/
I have also written a children’s book called Jack’s New Family. It’s about an 8 year old boy adopted from Russia, told in his own words. Here’s more about my book:

I am currently shopping around a manuscript about my daughter’s adoption. I have a manuscript about my son’s adoption. I am passionate about advocating for the adoption of older children.

My Book

I just wanted to announce, with great excitement, that my book about my daugther's adoption from Russia, Adopting Alesia: My Crusade for My Russian Daughter, is now available to order from Amazon! It was a 5 year labor of love to get this book to press, since I work full-time and am a mom to two, now. However, I am proud of it and I want to spread a very important message - older kids Rock! For more, see below.

What do you do when you encounter a spirited little girl in a Russian orphana… Continue

An Advocate for Adoption

I am so pleased to find this website. I have been writing about adoption for several years, but just found this site. I am very interested in all adoption topics, but particularly in the adoption of older children.

I adopted my daughter in 2004, after meeting her in 2003 when my choir sang at her orphanage. I was single and I had never even considered adopting, much less considered an 11 year old! She was so tiny, she looked about 7. I knew the moment I saw her that she was my daughter

Hi Dee,

Thank you so much for asking me to look at your manuscript. I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner; I was debating whether I could fit this in or not. Believe me, I really would like to read it, but I am just so incredibly swamped right now, I don't think I could get it done in the time frame you need. I'm in the final stages of publishing another children's book, in the middle of illustrations on another, and beginning un updated and expanded version of my schools booklet. Not to mention trying to squeeze in family time! I am sorry, and I do wish you the best of luck with your book!

Wow, I am surprised they said four weeks. I think I got my photo back in about a week. Maybe they are short staffed or have some big project going on right now. Good luck!

Dee - did you get your age regression photo back? I am so curious to hear how it turned out!

Fascinating article, Sandra, thanks! I am fearful that adoptions from Russia will get too difficult for Americans. I hope not. There are so many wonderful kids there who deserve loving homes..

Thanks for the friendvite, Dee. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Your kids are beautiful! Congratulations.

By the way, have you seen this? I just came across it in my trawling for blog fodder and suspect you will be interested.

Hi Dee...thanks for your encouragement! Wow! Your story is courageous. I can not imagine being a single mom. Although it is not 100% confirmed, we are planning to adopt from Taiwan. We have requested that she be younger than our youngest child. Right now he is 20 months old. We also have a 4 and a 6 year old. My hope is that somewhere down the road when my kids are older, we could consider older child adoption. Right now, with my children so young, it would not be a good fit for our family. Good luck with your request for a publisher! Sorry, I have no advice as I am clueless to all of that stuff.
