- I was adopted at birth through a private adoption in 1979. My life in chronological adoption related order: My adopted parents had one biological daughter who died a year after they adopted me. When I was 3 we adopted my brother from Costa Rica. When I was 17 my adopted mother died. When I was 20 I met my biological mother and my two half-brothers and maternal grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousins and more. My adopted dad remarried when I was 22 and I have two step-siblings. My biological family is a huge part of my adopted family, it amazes me constantly. I'm amazed at how hard it can be and how beautiful and how mundane. I've only begun to write about it and I look forward to exploring it much more.
