Educating and Advocating For Adoption Through the Written Word

Hi everyone,

I am curious if anyone is doing anything special (projects or marketing) for National Adoption Month and or National Adoption Day in November. I know Sherrie and Carrie are having people read Forever Fingerprints (and sending out the book with other materials). Anyone else?

I sent my book to some agencies that are holding National Adoption Day events (these are mostly geared toward foster care adoptions).

Also, is anyone else in California? I have thought it would be a good idea to team up with other adoption authors for book signings, but I think we are all spread out a bit.

Christine,

I am booking speaking events during the month of November at bookstores, libraries, churches, and with adoption groups. My publicists are working hard to get me booked on radio shows. Since both my adoption-themed books recently released, its a great time to kickoff my book promotion.

Christine, don't leave out the private agencies and parent groups! They often do awareness events or projects. Several parents groups around the country have purchased multiple copies of a single PPInc title to give to all branch libraries in a city in recognition of Adoption Awareness Month. Try this link on PPInc's site for some ideas http://www.perspectivespress.com/adoptionawareness.html

Hi Pat,

Thanks so much! I printed your article and it has some great ideas! I think I will (at least) donate some adoption books to local libraries and schools, write a letter to the editor, and use the 'Adopting A Child' postage stamp (I didn't know about this). I also like the idea of distributing Adoption Info. flyers or posters that can be posted on community bulletin boards, and taking your social worker to lunch (I'll do this too!). I'll pass your article along to other adoptive families as well. Thanks again.

Hi Christine,

I'm in North Carolina and throughout the state we are scheduling viewings of a documentary called "Unlocking the Heart of Adoption". If anyone is in NC and would like to attend, please go to www.familytreefinders.org and click on events.
